Rome, february 10th, 2015 – Driving Skills For Life, the Ford program offering free responsible driving training to 18-24 years old drivers, has won the Safe Wheel Award,
a recognition introduced by TV program Videomotori in collaboration with Michelin.

The jury, made of automotive journalists and personalities, recognized in the Blue Oval program all the key elements needed to successfully spread the message of responsible driving among the young drivers: an entertaining but informative format, a training program which relies on both theory and hands-on-wheel practice, and the possibility to test, in a controlled environment, what the instructors taught. During the sessions, young drivers learn to understand and avoid dangerous situations, and experience the effects of bad habits like using the cell-phone at the wheel or understand, while sober, the effects of alcohol on reflexes and perception.

“We’re proud to be awarded with the Safe Wheel, which highlights the role of companies and carmakers in spreading the message of responsible driving,” said Marco Alù Saffi, Public Relations Manager, Ford of Italy. “With Driving Skills For Life, Ford underscores its commitment in projects that enable the creation of future generations of safer drivers.”

Ford has been the first carmaker to offer young drivers hands-on-wheel free responsible driving training. Since the first edition of the program, born 12 years ago in the USA, more than 500.000 young drivers already attended the training. In 2013 the program has been brought to Europe and Ford has successfully organized, so far, 133 events, in 27 locations and 8 countries (Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Romania, Russia and United Kingdom). To date, 6.100 young European divers attended the training, and 99% of them said to have gained a deeper consciousness of the risks at the wheel.

Ford will soon announce the dates of the next free Ford Driving Skills For Life training sessions in Italy. To know more about the program and to register to be informed about the upcoming events, please visit the website www.drivingskillsforlife.it.
